3 Cenote Dives - Casa & Dos Ojos
The experience
Tulum's cenotes hide some of the most striking underwater scenery on the Yucatan Peninsula, and this day of diving is built for certified divers who want three distinct dives in a single outing. It's designed for anyone holding a PADI Open Water certification or higher who has been in the water within the past year, and it moves between two of the region's best-known cenote systems: Casa Cenote and Dos Ojos. Rather than a single dive site, the day strings together three separate underwater environments, each with its own character, light, and rock formations.
The day opens at Casa Cenote, an open, mangrove-lined cenote where sunlight filters down through the overhanging branches and scatters across the water in shifting beams. The color palette here runs through oranges, blues, and greens, a mix created by the interplay of light, mineral-rich rock, and the brackish water where fresh and salt water meet. It's a gentler introduction to the day, with visible surface light and a more open layout than the cave dives that follow.
From there the group heads to Dos Ojos, diving first along the Barbie Line, where two natural openings in the rock, the 'eyes' that give the cenote its name, let shafts of blue light drop into the caverns below. Those beams illuminate the decorated cavern walls and give this stretch of the dive its particular reputation among cave and cavern divers. The third dive continues into the Batcave section of Dos Ojos, where divers swim past detailed rock formations before surfacing inside an air-filled dome chamber. From there, the dive continues back out through the sunlit waters of the west eye, closing the day with another pass through natural light filtering into the cenote.
This trip suits divers who already have some open-water experience and are comfortable with a fuller day underwater rather than a single introductory dive. Because a current certification and recent diving activity are required, it's not a beginner or first-time cave experience; it's built for people who want to notch three different cenote profiles, from the open, light-filled Casa Cenote to the cavern formations of Dos Ojos, in one trip. What sets it apart from typical single-cenote outings is the range: three dives across two systems gives a broader sense of how varied these formations can be from one to the next.
The day includes water, snacks, and lunch, so there's no need to pack food beyond personal preference. Rental equipment, towels, and a PADI instructor are provided, which means divers don't need to bring their own gear unless they prefer diving with equipment they already know. Hotel pickup and drop-off are not included, so travelers should plan their own transportation to and from the dive location. Because diving within 18 hours of flying isn't recommended, it's worth timing this trip away from arrival or departure days.
Every participant completes a health questionnaire before diving, and the operator flags that certain pre-existing conditions, such as asthma or heart conditions, may affect eligibility, so it's worth checking with a doctor beforehand if any of those apply. The trip is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, those who are pregnant, or anyone with poor cardiovascular health, and it calls for at least a moderate level of physical fitness. On the accessibility side, the location is wheelchair accessible, infants and small children can be brought along in a pram or stroller for non-diving companions, and public transportation options exist nearby for those arranging their own way there.
