Catamaran along the Riviera Maya Snorkel food and open bar

This catamaran outing sails out from Puerto Aventuras along the Riviera Maya, combining a day on the water with snorkeling, an open bar, and a light lunch served on board. It runs as a standard-format group tour, built around a stretch of reef offshore and a quieter cove where the boat anchors later in the day, and it is designed to appeal both to travelers chasing an active day in the water and those who mainly want to relax on deck.

The day begins with transportation: guests are collected by air-conditioned van from most hotels across the Riviera Maya and Riviera Cancún, a leg of the trip that runs about an hour before reaching the dock at Puerto Aventuras. From there, the group boards the catamaran for the roughly 45-minute sail out to Inah Reef, where the boat's snorkeling guides lead guests into the water. The reef is described as home to a wide range of marine life, including large schools of tropical fish, sea turtles, and rays, and guides are on hand throughout for anyone snorkeling for the first time, with about 45 minutes allotted to the activity itself.

After the reef, the catamaran moves to a cove, where the pace shifts. Guests can try paddleboarding or float on mats provided on board, or simply make use of the shaded seating area built into the boat for anyone looking to stay out of direct sun. This stretch of the day, lasting around two hours, is also when the onboard meal service happens: a light lunch drawing on local, tropical, and Caribbean-influenced dishes, paired with access to the fully stocked open bar for the length of the sail. The return leg brings the boat back to Puerto Aventuras, followed by transport back to guests' hotels, with a final transportation segment of about 90 minutes, noting that arrival times can shift depending on where a hotel is located.

The structure of the day, mixing a defined snorkeling stop with unstructured cove time, open bar access, and food served on board, makes it a fit for travelers who want a full day at sea without having to choose between an activity-driven excursion and a lounge-on-the-water outing. It is described as suitable for all physical fitness levels, and life jackets are provided, which lowers the bar to entry for guests who are not strong swimmers or have limited snorkeling experience. Because infants must sit on an adult's lap and there are minimum ages for boarding and water activities, it also reads as more workable for families with older children than with very young ones.

Round-trip transportation from most Riviera Maya hotels is included provided the booking is made at least 24 hours in advance, and pickup is handled through the hotel lobby: a driver in a coffee-colored shorts and blue polo uniform will call your name and check identification matching the reservation before boarding the van. The exact pickup schedule is sent 48 or 24 hours ahead of the tour date, and guests should be ready in the main lobby five minutes before the scheduled time; at larger resorts, waiting in the designated tour pickup area is recommended. Public transportation options are noted as being available nearby as well.

On board, the fully stocked open bar, the light lunch, snorkeling gear and instruction at Inah Reef, paddleboards and floating mats at the cove, and life jackets and shaded seating are all included in the tour. The one notable cost to plan for separately is a $10 USD dock tax, paid directly on site and not covered by the booking price. Given the time spent in and around the water, swimwear, a towel, and sun protection are practical items to bring, and travelers should factor in that the tour itself runs about four hours on the water, with additional transportation time on each end depending on where along the Riviera Maya or Riviera Cancún their hotel is located.
