Discover 3 amazing cenotes. Includes transport & snack
The experience
This excursion takes travelers to three cenotes in the Riviera Maya, the freshwater sinkholes that dot the Yucatan Peninsula and were regarded by the Maya as sacred passages into the underworld. Round-trip transportation and a snack are included, making this a straightforward, low-logistics way to spend a day swimming through some of the region's most distinctive natural formations rather than a single stop at one cenote.
After pick-up from your hotel or a designated meeting point, the day opens with a short registration and orientation so everyone understands what to expect before entering the water. From there the group moves through three separate cenotes, each one a self-contained pocket of cool, clear, sweet water shielded by jungle and limestone. The pace is unhurried, giving swimmers time to float, relax, and take in the setting at each stop rather than rushing between sites.
A Mayan-inspired snack is served during the outing, a nod to the cultural roots of the cenotes themselves, and life vests are provided so swimmers of varying comfort levels in open water can join in. Once the three cenotes have been explored, transportation returns everyone to their hotel or original meeting point, closing out a day built almost entirely around water and quiet natural scenery rather than adrenaline.
This is a good fit for families and travelers who want a gentler, nature-focused alternative to the region's more extreme adventure tours, since the core activity is swimming rather than ziplining or off-roading. It still calls for a moderate level of physical fitness and is not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health, so it suits swimmers who are comfortable getting in and out of water at multiple stops over the course of the day. What sets it apart from combination adventure tours is its singular focus: three cenotes, transportation, and a snack, without ATVs, ziplines, or other add-ons competing for time.
Pack a change of clothes, a towel, closed-toe shoes, a swimsuit, sunscreen, and biodegradable insect repellent, all specifically recommended for this trip. Two pick-up windows are offered: a morning departure with Cancun and Playa del Carmen pick-up between 8:00 and 8:30 am and Tulum pick-up between 7:00 and 8:00 am, arriving at the park by 9:30 am, or a midday departure with Cancun and Playa del Carmen pick-up between 12:00 and 12:30 pm and Tulum pick-up between 11:00 am and noon, arriving by 1:30 pm. Exact pick-up times vary by hotel and are confirmed by email or text; if your accommodation isn't on the standard list, a representative will reach out to arrange a special meeting point, and Tulum guests without a listed hotel or in an Airbnb should plan to meet at the Super Aki supermarket downtown.
Entrance to all three cenotes, transportation, applicable fees, the snack, and life vests are covered in the price. Souvenirs, tips, an optional photo package, and locker rental at $5 USD are not included, so budget separately if you'd like any of those extras. Cell phone use is restricted during the activities for safety reasons, and the zipline option available at some cenotes on this route carries a 270-pound weight limit and isn't recommended for anyone with heart conditions, a fear of heights, claustrophobia, dizziness, or a recent surgery.
