Reef Snorkeling with ATV, Zipline, Cenote that includes lunch and transportation

4.3 3 verified reviews

The Riviera Maya's coastline hides the second largest coral reef system in the world, and this full-day outing gives you a hands-on introduction to it before pivoting into the jungle for a run of adrenaline activities. The format combines reef snorkeling at Puerto Morelos with ATV riding, ziplining, and a cenote swim, followed by lunch, all wrapped into one round-trip package with hotel transportation from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Tulum.

The day begins in the water, where a snorkel and life jacket get you gliding over coral formations at Puerto Morelos Reef. Beneath the surface, expect a mix of coral structures and reef fish in a range of colors, with a chance of spotting stingrays, sea turtles, or crabs along the way, though sightings of the larger marine life are never guaranteed. Once you're back on dry land, the group heads into the Caribbean jungle to a park set up for the second half of the day.

There, you climb behind the wheel of an ATV and work through a trail built around obstacles, mud, and turns through dense vegetation. From the ATV circuit, the tour moves overhead onto a series of ziplines strung through the treetops, carrying you above the jungle canopy from platform to platform. The last stop is a cenote tucked into the park, where you can enter the water by jumping from a platform or by riding a zipline down into it, Tarzan-style, before the group sits down to a meal of tacos.

This tour suits travelers who want variety packed into a single day rather than committing to one activity at a time, and who are comfortable with a physically active itinerary. Because participants drive their own ATV, it works well for adults and older teens traveling with a group, though anyone with spinal issues, cardiovascular concerns, or who is pregnant should sit this one out, and a moderate level of physical fitness is expected of everyone else. Only adults 18 and over are permitted to drive an ATV; travelers 17 and under must ride along with an adult, and a weight limit is enforced.

Pack a change of clothes, a towel, closed-toe shoes, a swimsuit, sunglasses, and a bandana, along with biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent, since these help you move between the wet and dry portions of the day without much fuss. Cell phones aren't permitted during the activities for safety reasons, so plan on leaving the photography to the tour's own arrangements or capturing your own shots before and after. Snorkeling gear, life jackets, and all necessary safety equipment are provided, along with ATV insurance, park admission covering the ATV circuit, zipline circuit, and cenote, air-conditioned transportation, purified water, and two tacos after the activities, so a light breakfast at your hotel beforehand is a good idea.

Locker rental runs an extra 5 USD if you want to store your belongings, and a dock fee applies in Cancun, both of which are on you to cover. Pickup runs on a single morning schedule: guests from the Cancun and Playa del Carmen zone are collected between 8:00 and 8:30 am, while Tulum-zone guests are picked up between 7:00 and 8:00 am, with arrival at the park set for around 9:30 am. Exact pickup times vary by hotel and are confirmed by a company representative via email or text; travelers staying in Tulum hotels or Airbnbs are asked to meet at the Super Aki Tulum Supermarket downtown, so build in time to reach that spot before the scheduled window.
