Small group tour to Chichen Itza early access + Cenote + Coba

This small-group day trip is built around getting into Chichen Itza before the crowds do, then rounding out the day with a cenote swim and a stop at the jungle city of Coba. It runs long — total time including transportation back to your hotel spans roughly 11 to 12 hours depending on where you're staying — but the payoff is a guided visit to one of Mexico's most recognized Mayan sites with far fewer people in the frame, followed by two more stops that fill out the rest of the day.

The group arrives at Chichen Itza right as the gates open, giving roughly two and a half hours at the site: about 105 minutes with the guide covering structures like La Iglesia, Las Monjas, and the Observatory, along with one of the two cenotes located inside the ruins themselves, followed by free time to photograph the Kukulkan pyramid without crowds, wander independently, or browse souvenir vendors on-site. The guided portion also takes in the Temple of a Thousand Columns, the Jaguar Temple, and the largest ball court in the Mayan world, with the guide explaining the history behind each as you go.

From the ruins, the group heads to Cenote Chukum, an underground cenote in Yucatan where you can swim beneath rows of stalactites, followed by a regional buffet lunch served at the cenote's restaurant. The last stop is Coba, a Mayan site set in the jungle about an hour from Tulum and home to the tallest pyramid in Yucatan; the guide leads a walk through its various structures, explaining what made Coba significant within the broader Mayan world.

The operator is explicit that this isn't built around souvenir-shop stops, positioning itself instead as a cultural and historical tour focused on time at the actual sites. That framing, combined with the early arrival at Chichen Itza and the small-group format, makes it a fit for travelers who'd rather spend their day at ruins and in the water than on a bus circuit through retail stops — though the long overall day length, and the physical demands of visiting three separate sites, mean it suits travelers with at least moderate fitness and the patience for a full day out. Infants are welcome but must sit on an adult's lap during transport.

Pickup is from your hotel lobby or an assigned meeting point, with the route running between the Vidanta area and Tulum's downtown; the tour does not operate between Puerto Morelos and the Cancun area. Pickup times are confirmed by email or text the afternoon before the tour, and generally run from 6:00 to 7:00 am for the Playa del Carmen area and 6:30 to 7:00 am for Akumal and Tulum. Anyone staying in Tulum's downtown or hotel zone should note that hotel pickup isn't offered there — instead, everyone meets at the doors of the Super Aki supermarket at the entrance to Tulum city at 7:00 am.

Lunch, bottled water on board, the cenote entry fee, and the guided tour are covered, along with early access to Chichen Itza, but drinks at the restaurant are on you. Bring a towel, swimsuit, flip-flops, and a change of clothes for the cenote swim, plus cash for taxes and other expenses — the state taxes for Chichen Itza and Coba are not included in the tour price and must be paid on the day, at 900 MXN per person, rising to 1,100 MXN per person from January 1, 2026.
