Stroll the Jungle Trails on our Horseback Riding, with transport

4.5 2 verified reviews

The Riviera Maya is best known for its underwater world, but some of its most memorable outings happen entirely on dry land. This horseback riding tour takes you through the jungle trails behind Maroma Beach, pairing a guided ride with a stretch of open coastline, and includes round-trip transport from your hotel so the whole outing is handled door to door.

Once your air-conditioned vehicle collects you and makes its way along the Cancun road toward Maroma Beach, you will check in on site and meet your guide, who walks the group through the basics of handling a horse and fits everyone with a safety helmet before the ride begins. Horses are matched to each rider according to their comfort and experience level, so newcomers and more confident riders alike are paired appropriately before the group sets off together.

From there the pace is unhurried. Guides lead the group along jungle and mangrove paths, pointing out the surrounding vegetation and wildlife as you go, and stop where needed to help riders capture photos along the trail. The route eventually opens onto Maroma Beach, where the jungle gives way to white sand and turquoise water, and riders have time to take in the coastline before turning back. The return leg follows a different jungle path, so the scenery on the way back is not simply a repeat of the outbound route, before everyone regroups at the stables for a final round of photos.

This outing suits families and casual riders more than seasoned equestrians looking for a technical ride: it is described as an experience for the whole family, and the pace and instruction are geared toward people trying horseback riding for the first time or riding casually on vacation. Riders should still come with a reasonable baseline of fitness, since it is not recommended for anyone with spinal injuries, cardiovascular issues, or for pregnant travelers, and children between 8 and 14 must ride accompanied by a paying adult rather than solo.

A helmet is provided as safety equipment, and the tour includes one non-alcoholic beverage such as bottled water or a soft drink, along with a bilingual guide for the ride itself. Riders should plan to cover alcoholic drinks, gratuities, and any photographs taken by the tour operator out of pocket, and be aware that lockers require a refundable key deposit, charged at the start and partially returned at the end of the tour.

Pickup is arranged through the hotel: if your accommodation is not on the operator's standard list, you are asked to flag this in advance so a representative can confirm the exact pickup point and time, which is communicated by email or text message ahead of the tour since schedules vary by hotel. Given the ride takes place outdoors along beach and jungle terrain, sun protection, comfortable closed-toe shoes, and swimwear for time at Maroma Beach are worth having on hand, and infants must sit on an adult's lap rather than have their own mount, with a minimum participation age of 6 and a minimum age of 16 to ride independently.
