Tulum Adventure Day 3 Cenotes & 1 Lagoon from Tulum
The experience
Deep in the jungle south of Tulum, a string of freshwater cenotes and one striking lagoon make up this full day of swimming and exploring. The tour visits three separate cenotes plus a lagoon over the course of the day, giving travelers a broad sample of the underground water systems that define this part of the YucatΓ‘n Peninsula, all wrapped up with a regional lunch buffet in a jungle restaurant.
Transportation from Tulum starts the day, with a boxed breakfast of a sandwich, juice, fruit, and a cookie provided en route. The first stop is Zacil-ha, a cenote shaped almost like a natural pool, prized for its turquoise clarity and set up with a small restaurant, shaded lounging areas, changing rooms, and multiple jumping-off points at different heights for those who want to leap into the water rather than ease in. An hour here allows time to swim, jump, and relax before moving on.
From Zacil-ha, the route continues to a second cenote, this one an underground formation carved out over thousands of years, where light filters down through openings in the cave ceiling and scatters across the turquoise surface below. Limestone formations and dense vegetation frame the water, and the site is suited to both swimming and snorkeling during the hour allotted. The day's centerpiece follows at Kaam Lumm Lagoon, a roughly two-hour stop where a distinctive color gradient runs from the lagoon's edges toward its center, where a cenote plunges around 80 meters deep. The shallower, warmer water near the shore makes it comfortable for swimming and photos, and lunch, a Mexican regional buffet, is served here at the on-site restaurant.
The day closes at Zemway, a cenote known for its clear turquoise water framed by dense jungle vegetation. Travelers looking for a bit more adrenaline can jump from a raised platform, while those who prefer a calmer close to the day can simply relax on the opposite side of the water. An hour here rounds out the four-stop itinerary before the return transfer to Tulum.
With four separate swim stops in a single day, this tour is built for travelers who want variety over a single deep dive into one location, and who don't mind a full, activity-packed schedule. It suits swimmers and snorkelers of any experience level, since the tour is described as suitable for all physical fitness levels, though it is not recommended for those with spinal injuries, cardiovascular issues, or pregnant travelers. Because the day covers so much ground, it's a better fit for travelers prioritizing quantity and variety of cenotes over long, leisurely stays at any single site.
Bring a swimsuit, towel, and a change of clothes, along with comfortable shoes and biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent, since regular sunscreen can harm these fragile underground ecosystems. As with other tours running from Tulum, pickup involves smaller vehicles first gathering passengers before transferring everyone to the main bus at a final meeting point, so allow extra time at the start of the day. Entrance fees for all three cenotes and the lagoon, round-trip transportation from Tulum, the boxed breakfast, and the Mexican regional buffet lunch are included; drinks at the restaurant and life vests are not, so plan to rent a vest on-site or bring your own flotation gear if needed.
