Tulum & Akumal with Sea Turtles + Las Coloradas 2-Day Tour
The experience
Rather than cramming the highlights of the Riviera Maya and the Yucatán coast into a single rushed day, this two-day tour spreads them out, giving each stop room to breathe. The first day centers on the cultural and coastal side of the region, the Tulum ruins, the sea turtles of Akumal, and a cenote swim, while the second turns toward the wild, open landscapes of Yucatán, from pink lagoons to mangrove channels thick with wildlife.
Day one opens with a photo stop at the Tulum sign, where the Caribbean stretches out behind the iconic lettering, before a guided walk through the Tulum Archaeological Site with a certified guide explaining the history and architecture of the clifftop Mayan city. From there the group heads to Akumal, known as the place of the turtles, for a boat outing along the coast with chances to spot sea turtles in open water. The day winds down with a swim in Cenote Nohoch, where crystal-clear water sits inside limestone formations lit by natural light, a cooling final stop before the ride back to the meeting point.
The second day shifts entirely to the natural side of the peninsula. It starts at Las Coloradas, the pink salt lagoons whose color comes from high salt concentration and microorganisms in the water, with viewing areas set up for photos and a guide on hand to explain the science behind the hue and point out flamingos feeding or nesting nearby. The route then continues to Ría Lagartos for a boat ride through mangrove canals, where flamingos, crocodiles, and other birds share the waterway, followed by a traditional Mayan mud experience on a quiet beach and a sit-down à la carte meal at a local restaurant to close out the trip.
Spreading the itinerary across two days makes this suited to travelers who would rather absorb each site properly than check boxes quickly, families and couples included, since the tour is described as suitable for all physical fitness levels with no rappelling, hiking, or zipline components involved. What distinguishes it from a single-day Tulum or Las Coloradas trip is exactly that pacing: two dedicated days let you take in Mayan ruins, marine wildlife, cenotes, salt lagoons, and mangrove ecosystems without stacking them all into one exhausting outing.
Roundtrip transportation in an air-conditioned bus or van, a bilingual guide, and two lunches are included across the two days, along with the Las Coloradas, Ría Lagartos, and Mayan bath portion and the Tulum, Akumal turtles, and cenote portion. Not included are the Rio Lagartos preservation tax, the Mayan ruins preservation tax, and the marine tax tied to the Akumal turtles visit for travelers over the age of three, so plan for those as separate costs. Pack a swimsuit, towels, and a change of clothes, along with comfortable shoes, sunglasses, and biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent, since you will move between ruins, beach, and boat settings across the two days. Pickup time is arranged based on your location, so travelers who have not already given a pickup point should reach out promptly, as the operator otherwise cannot guarantee the service; keep track of belongings when getting on and off the bus or at each park, and note that date changes are not possible on the day of your visit itself.
