Kayak Adventure in Bacalar! Discover the wonders of the lagoon.

Bacalar's Lagoon of Seven Colors has earned a reputation for water so clear and layered in shades of blue that it's easy to see why travelers detour south of Tulum to visit. This day trip strings together the lagoon's best-known stops, an open-water cenote, a beach club with kayaking, and a look at a centuries-old fort, into one guided outing with round-trip transportation included.

After pickup from your hotel lobby or an assigned meeting point, the drive south takes you first to Cenote Azul, an open sinkhole roughly 200 meters across and 90 meters deep, ringed by surrounding vegetation and known for its striking blue color. Because it's an open cenote, swimming here is a slower, more deliberate experience than diving into a cave cenote, and you're given about ninety minutes to get in the water before sitting down to a breakfast that includes a dish of your choice.

From there the group heads to Marmol Beach Club on the lagoon itself, where the bulk of the day unfolds over roughly three hours. You'll have an hour of kayaking to paddle out across the water and take in the lagoon's shifting colors from a different vantage point, plus time to swim, relax at the beach club, and sit down to lunch, again with a traditional dish of your choice included. Before heading back, a guide leads a panoramic tour that includes views of the Fort of San Felipe, built in the 18th century to help defend the town from pirate raids, and the trip closes with a photo stop at Bacalar's colorful lettered sign, a now-standard marker of having visited the town.

The mix of a calm open-water swim, an hour of light kayaking, and a scenic guided drive makes this a fit for travelers who want to be active without anything technical or physically demanding, including families and casual paddlers rather than experienced kayakers looking for a workout. What sets it apart from a simple lagoon swim day is the combination of elements in one trip, the cenote, the beach club with kayak access, and the fort and town sign stops, bundled with breakfast and lunch so you're not arranging food or entry tickets separately. The accessibility notes list the transportation and beach club areas as wheelchair accessible and describe the tour as suitable for all fitness levels.

Pack a swimsuit and towel for both the cenote and the lagoon, along with a change of clothes for the ride home. A life jacket is required for use at Cenote Azul but is not included in the tour price, so plan to rent or bring your own if you don't have one; drinks at the restaurant beyond what's served with your included meals are also an added cost. Given the amount of time in and around the water, sun protection and comfortable sandals are worth having on hand as well.

Pickup times are fixed by region rather than by individual hotel: roughly 5:00 to 5:20 am for Cancún, 6:00 to 6:45 am for Playa del Carmen, and 7:30 am for Tulum, where collection is specifically from Super Aki. Given the early start and the drive involved, this is very much a full-day commitment, with the return trip also built into the schedule. If your hotel isn't on the operator's standard pickup list, you're asked to flag it in the special requirements section of your booking and include your email so a representative can confirm the exact time and location by message ahead of the trip.
