Along the Riviera Maya, few combinations pair as naturally as a swim through a limestone lagoon and a walk among ancient stone. This full-day outing links Xel-Há, the natural park built around a network of inlets and freshwater springs near Tulum, with a guided visit to the Tulum archaeological site perched above the Caribbean. It runs as a two-in-one package, so a single pickup and a single bus ride cover both stops, with lunch and drinks folded into the day rather than left for travelers to arrange on their own.

The morning begins early, with hotel pickup around 6:45 am and a ride toward Xel-Há that lands somewhere between 8:00 and 9:30, depending on where along the coast your hotel sits. Once inside the park, the schedule opens up considerably: roughly six hours are set aside for the water itself, whether that means snorkeling through the tube-shaped inlets with the included equipment, floating along the river channels, wandering the garden paths that wind between the pools, or simply settling into one of the rest areas with a hammock or lounge chair. A buffet lunch and an open bar of national drinks are included, so there's little need to leave the park grounds until it's time to move on.

From Xel-Há, the group heads to the Tulum ruins, arriving in the early afternoon for roughly two hours with a guide who narrates the site's history from start to finish, standing above the cliffs where the walled city once watched over the coastline. There's time built in to photograph the pyramids and the surrounding grounds before the group departs Tulum around 4:30 pm, loops back through Xel-Há briefly, and then boards the bus for the return trip to hotels and meeting points across Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and the Riviera Maya.

The pace suits travelers who want to cover two very different sides of the region in one day without renting a car or piecing together separate bookings — snorkelers and beach-loving families on one hand, history-minded visitors on the other. Because the itinerary is wheelchair accessible, allows strollers, and is described as suitable for all physical fitness levels, it also works for multigenerational groups where not everyone wants to be in the water the whole time. What sets it apart from a standalone park pass or a standalone ruins tour is simply the bundling: one bus, one guide for the archaeological portion, one day.

Pack light, comfortable clothing along with walking shoes or sneakers, since you'll be on your feet at Tulum after a morning in the water. A swimsuit, towel, and a change of clothes are worth bringing too, and sunscreen should be biodegradable, since Xel-Há restricts standard sunblock to protect its ecosystem. Bottled water, snorkel gear with a tube, lockers, changing rooms, showers, and towels at the park are all included, along with a certified bilingual guide for the Tulum portion of the day.

A few things are left out of the base package: souvenirs, photo pass packages, and optional add-on activities like Sea Trek or Snuba interactions with marine life are all available to purchase separately but aren't part of what you've booked. Transport is shared rather than private, so expect to be on a bus with other visitors heading to the same Xcaret group destinations, and guides identify themselves by red T-shirts with the company logo. Because pickup times and exact meeting points depend on your hotel's location, the operator asks that you confirm details through your reservation at least 24 hours ahead, and if you're staying somewhere other than a hotel, you'll need to provide a full address so they can route you to the nearest pickup point. Arrive 15 minutes before your assigned time, and keep your printed or digital voucher with QR codes and an official ID on hand for boarding and for the wristband that gets you into the park.
