Soliman Bay sits along the Riviera Maya coastline north of Tulum, a stretch of turquoise water that has stayed quieter than the beaches closer to town. This paddleboard tour puts you on a stand-up board directly on that bay, gliding over a shallow reef system where the water clarity lets you see straight down to the coral and fish below without ever putting your face in the water.

The outing is led in small groups by Roberto, a guide who grew up in this Mayan region and has spent years working these waters. Once you push off, the pace is unhurried: you paddle out over the reef, pausing where the marine life concentrates, then work your way around the bay taking in the coastline from a vantage point most visitors never get. Because the group stays small, Roberto can point out what is passing beneath your board as you go rather than rushing you along a fixed route.

The tour runs about 120 minutes on the water. Along the way there is a real chance of spotting sea turtles, stingrays, and fishing eagles working the shoreline, on top of the reef fish and coral that are visible almost the entire time. Soliman Bay also tends to hold up better against the seaweed that periodically affects other Riviera Maya beaches, so the paddling conditions are generally cleaner here than at more exposed spots. The experience wraps with a beach meal of ceviche and guacamole, giving you a chance to sit on the sand and unwind after being on the water.

This is built for travelers who want to actually paddle rather than simply float, but it is not exclusively for athletes. The operators note it suits all physical fitness levels, and infants or small children can come along in a pram or stroller, making it workable for families as well as couples or solo travelers looking for something more active than a standard snorkel boat. The one caution is for anyone with poor cardiovascular health, for whom the tour is not recommended, since sustained paddling is part of the activity.

Everything you need on the water is provided: snorkeling equipment is included if you want to look closer at what is beneath your board, along with snacks and the beachside ceviche meal afterward. Private transportation and all fees and taxes are also part of the package, so there is little to arrange once you book beyond showing up ready to be on the water.

Meeting works two ways: the default is a downtown Tulum meeting point, or the operators can pick you up directly from your hotel if that hotel is located in Tulum downtown. Pickup is not offered from beach-road hotels, so if you are staying along the hotel zone rather than in town, plan to make your way to the downtown meeting point instead. Public transportation options are available nearby if you need to get there independently.
