La Palapa de los Sánchez
$50–100Under a sweeping thatched palapa on the north beach, the Sánchez family has been ladling out fish soup and serving cold ceviche to sunburned travelers since 1998. This is a cash-only, flip-flops-welcome operation where the only menu is a chalkboard and the only view is the Caribbean. The homemade garlic butter shrimp and Doña Rosa's guacamole with fried plantain chips are not to be missed.
Raíces Vegana
$100–200Raíces Vegana is Holbox's most ambitious plant-based kitchen, reinterpreting Mayan and coastal Mexican flavors through an entirely vegan lens. Mushroom ceviche with jícama and lime, jackfruit tacos al pastor, and raw chocolate desserts made with Tabasco cacao draw a cosmopolitan crowd far beyond the usual vegan circuit. The breezy rooftop terrace hosts weekend live music sets.
Asadero El Flamingo
$50–100Named in tribute to the flamingos that wade the nearby Yalahau lagoon, El Flamingo is a neighborhood asadero that specializes in carne asada tacos and flame-grilled fish platters at prices that won't break a budget. The open-front grill station faces the street, letting the smoke announce the restaurant from half a block away. Local workers account for most of the midday crowd; tourists discover it by following their noses.
Marea Restaurante
$400–800Marea brings a refined yet relaxed approach to beachside dining with a menu celebrating the biodiversity of the Mexican Caribbean. Dishes arrive as composed plates — raw tuna with jalapeño oil, grilled grouper over heirloom bean stew, coconut panna cotta — while the wine cellar is the most thoughtful on the island. White linen under a palapa roof, warm candlelight, and the sound of gentle surf define the atmosphere.
La Conchita del Caribe
$50–100La Conchita is a family-run staple beloved for its enormous shrimp burritos, coconut ceviche, and a weekly Sunday barbecue that half the island shows up for. The kitchen is helmed by Abuela Petra, whose sazón and insistence on fresh ingredients have kept the place packed for fifteen years. Kids are handed coloring sheets on arrival, and the fan-cooled dining room doubles as a community gathering spot.
Verde Mar
$200–400Verde Mar occupies a rare niche on Holbox's beach strip: a fully vegetarian restaurant with a front-row view of the Caribbean. Signature dishes include a grilled halloumi and roasted pepper tostada, chilled gazpacho with local herbs, and a striking beet tartare that converts even committed carnivores. The natural wine selection and sunset yoga classes hosted on the terrace have built a devoted following.
El Huachinango Feliz
$100–200The Happy Snapper lives up to its name: the mood is festive, the grilled whole red snapper arrives crispy-skinned and fragrant with achiote, and the cumbia soundtrack keeps the energy high all evening. This is a family business in the truest sense — three cousins run the grill, the cash register, and the front-of-house simultaneously. Rice, black beans, and fried plantain complete every plate without need for extras.
Cielo y Arena
$200–400Cielo y Arena — Sky and Sand — earns its poetic name with tables set directly on the sand at Punta Coco's undeveloped stretch, where flamingos are occasionally spotted wading in the shallows at dusk. The kitchen fires wood-grilled whole fish, creamy lobster bisque, and ceviche served in coconut shells, all while the horizon turns violet and amber. Lantern light and bare feet make every dinner here feel ceremonial.
